Slovenia earned a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer to draw 1-1 against Serbia in their UEFA Nations League opener on Thursday, keeping their hopes of securing promotion from Group B4 alive.

Aleksandar Mitrovic gave Serbia the lead with a stunning strike in the first half, but Benjamin Sesko headed home in the dying seconds of the match to rescue a point for the hosts.

The result leaves Slovenia third in the group after two games, with one point from their opening two matches. Serbia, meanwhile, are top of the group with four points.

In a lively and entertaining match, both sides had chances to win the game.

Serbia took the lead in the 25th minute when Mitrovic collected a pass from Dusan Tadic and fired a thunderous shot into the top corner of the net from outside the area.

Slovenia responded well to going behind and had a number of chances to equalize before the break.

They finally got their reward in the 95th minute when Sesko headed home a cross from Josip Ilicic.

The draw was a fair result on the balance of play and both teams will be pleased with their start to the Nations League campaign.
